Charlie Puth has released a new track titled “Home,” a heartfelt collaboration with Japanese-American singer Hikaru Utada.
The song will appear on Puth’s upcoming fourth studio album, Whatever’s Clever!, which is scheduled to arrive March 27 (preorder – HERE). The album includes a wide range of guest appearances, including Kenny G, Ravyn Lenae, Coco Jones, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and Jeff Goldblum.
According to Puth, the deeply personal track was inspired by his wife Brooke, as the couple prepares to welcome their first child together. “Home was written for my best friend, wife and soon to be mother of our first child,” Charlie says in a statement. “Brooke has changed my life for the better and given me a whole new perspective on why and where I belong in this world. Everything makes sense with her.” He also shared how meaningful it was to collaborate with Utada, calling the experience especially rewarding. “and to have the honor of one of my favorite artists, Hikaru Utada, featuring on this song with me, is a true gift.”
Utada contributed Japanese lyrics to the track, helping transform it into a bilingual song. Reflecting on the collaboration, she said the project immediately stood out when she first heard it. “As a fellow songwriter and music listener, it was obvious to me when I first heard the demo of ‘Home’ that this is a deeply personal song for Charlie that comes straight from his heart.” She also noted that writing Japanese lines to match the English melody was both challenging and enjoyable. “I hope everyone enjoys this bilingual song and its universal message.”
Puth is also preparing for a busy stretch on the road on his ‘Whatever’s Clever!’ world tour, beginning April 22 at Viejas Arena before heading across North America and Europe later this year.
